Jerusalem and Its Semi-Arid Hills Ancient Places and/or Civilizations

Jerusalem is near a desert, and the city itself is surrounded by semi-arid hills.  In this view - looking south - we see the road to Hebron.  The hills in the photograph roll gradually down to a desert known as the Negev.
