Little is known about Herri met de Bles (also known as Herry de Patinir and "Il Civetta"), the Northern Flemish artist who created this painting of Jesus on the road to Emmaus. It is believed he lived between 1510–1555, but it is uncertain when he created Landscape with Christ and the Men of Emmaus.
The work is now owned by Museum Mayer van den Bergh in Antwerp, Belgium.
