Leonardo's early genius for painting was contrasted to the talents of a master.  The painting, housed today at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, is still a marvel.

While working in Milan, da Vinci designed war machines, bridges, siege machines, costumes and masks for the ruling Duke of Milan.

All the while, however, he was anxious to create something more majestic and meaningful.
