An unknown Flemish master created this oil on panel, depicting Pontius Pilate trying to reason with the crowd. Having found no fault in Jesus, the Roman governor cannot understand why anyone would want the prisoner to die.
In the end, however, he listens to the crowd and condemns Jesus to die by crucifixion.
The oil on panel, entitled Ecce Homo, was painted in approximately 1545 and is currently owned by the Rijksmuseum, in Amsterdam.
