"Choosing a Bride for the Grand Duke" - Ilya Repin

Ilya Repin (1844-1930) was born to Russian-military settlers in the Ukraine and lived, for a time, in a beautiful manor house (now a museum) in Belarus

Known as a realistic painter, his works are often emotional and complex.  He created this painting - "Choosing a Bride for the Grand Duke" - in 1884.  It reflects the tradition of a prince selecting a bride from women who have gathered for that purpose.

The oil-on-canvas original is now at the Perm Picture Gallery in Perm, Russia.
