What It's Like: A Personal Story of Suffering - Wanderers

WANDERERS
By Janice Veldman

 once
an engineer
a teacher
a preacher
a homemaker
a nurse

 Dementia
does not make us 4-year-olds

our opinions are scattered
 our thoughts are rattled
 we know and understand
theories
complexities
bits and pieces of literature
scientific facts
axiomatic math
but because these remembrances are not offered
complete and in precise order
they are not grasped
instead ignored

we wander
looking for
the last thought
its connection

when we are found
we are put to bed
we are lost not tired

it is all about managing
not communicating
misinterpreted

no one
is able to understand us
